British multinational car manufacturer Jaguar, was founded by Sir William Lyons and William Walmsey in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company, which originally produced sidecars for motorbikes before it began making passenger automobiles.
Due to unfortunate connotations with the company's initials with the German SS, the company changed its name to Jaguar following World War II. Jaguar has had numerous owners during its existence, most noticeably Ford Motor Company, and their current owners Tata Motors.
The prestigious car brand has its headquarters in Whitley, Coventry and currently employs over 10,000 people worldwide. It only produces luxury cars, and in recent years has been producing cars for the British Prime Minister, and the company also holds royal warrants from the Queen and her son Prince Charles. Despite having it's headquarters in Whitley, the company's assembly point is in it's Birmingham manufacturing plant.
The company's current models include the F-Type, the XF, the XJ and the XK. The old XJ220 was confirmed in 1992 as the fastest production car in the world, after the BBC's Martin Brundle recorded a speed of 217mph on Italy.
